Small Laptop For Only $299? Why The EeePC Is Taking The World By Storm…

A few days ago a relative of mine bought himself a new laptop. It wasn’t one of the $1500 Apple Macbooks, or $800 Dells. Instead, it was the new Asus Eee PC, and it only cost $299.

That made me do a double-take. $299 for a laptop? Is it any good?

The answer is: Yes, is actually is really good. It’s not for everyone, but the EeePC does certain things very, very well — better than any other laptop.

I was so impressed by this little computer that I couldn’t resist writing a review of it for you guys. It’s just so cool — and at that price? Wow.

Asus EeePC Review

“Everything works like a charm! The eeepc is light and easy to transport. It’s got built-in WiFi and can do anything any other laptop can do. … I am now starting to think of this as my new full fledged laptop.”

The first thing you should know about the Asus EeePC is it doesn’t come with Windows or Mac OS loaded, at least not right out of the box. Instead, it has a special operating system that’s designed to be easier, faster, and more stable. If you’re used to Windows or MacOS, you shouldn’t have any trouble adapting.

But if you’re like many of us and you prefer Windows XP, you can install it on the EeePC computer yourself if you have an installation CD laying around. The process is quick and easy. Instructions on how to use the EeePC & XP together come with the EeePC packaging.

The first thing I noticed is how remarkably small the thing is. It’s about 22.5 cm x 16 cm x 2.5 cm. And it weighs less than two pounds. As one EeePC owner said, it easily slips in your purse or backpack so you can take it anywhere. And it looks good — you can get white, black, green, or pink EeePC.

The EeePC is durable — you can’t break it. Because it uses a special type of durable storage called flash memory, instead of a hard drive, you’d be hard pressed to damage an EeePC even by dropping it on the ground. You might think that being so small an inexpensive, it’d be flimsy, but no, it’s extremely solid and sturdy.

And, it comes loaded with an office suite, web browser, special tools for students (including a dictionary), and everything you need for light media use like listening to music.

The EeePC is probably the best laptop on the market for students.

EeePC Gets Two Thumbs Up!

Laptops almost always cost a lot more than desktops. And you often pay even more if you want a small, portable laptop. The Macbook Air, billed as one of the most portable laptops in the world, costs well over a thousand dollars. But the Asus EeePC is only $299.

This is one of the coolest products I’ve seen. If you’ve been wanting a portable laptop on a budget — and who hasn’t? — then check the Asus EeePC out.
